“Failure by senior authorities at Commerce and Industries and Mines ministries in reducing mobile import tariff from 25 to 10 per cent has led to the current crisis in mobile market,” Jamshid Edalatian told Irans news agency (Mobna).
He said 80 percent of handsets with prices above 2,000,000 rials are those which have been smuggled into the country.
He said if the tariff remains the same the smuggling will increase and the market will experience yet another crisis.
He said mobile import tariff reduction will not have a negative effect in countries such as Iran and domestic manufacturers need not be anxious.
