“Although current SKD and CKD tariffs are quite reasonable, but the widespread mobile smuggling has left no room for domestic-made mobiles to have any chance of being presented properly, as most prospective buyers tend to opt for smuggled famous foreign brands,” Hamid-Reza Monji told Mobna news agency.
He said, however, that his company would continue its Hyundai mobile production although its expansion would depend on serious crackdown on present mobile set smuggling.
“With the present 25% import tariff on mobiles, most authorized importers do not import their commodities through legal channels,” he added.
Emad Semiconductors is one of the companies in contract with the Ministry of Industries and Mines to manufacture to manufacture one million mobile annually signed in May 2007.
