First MCI network BSC upgraded to 2.75G technology

A BTS is controlled by a parent BSC via the (Base Station Control Function).
Base Transceiver Station (BTS) is the equipment which facilitates the wireless communication between user equipments (UE) and the network. UEs are devices like mobile phones (handsets), WLL phones, computers with wireless internet connectivity, WiFi and WiMAX gadgets etc.
“First operator GSM network is being transferred to EDGE network and final tests will be done soon,” MCI managing director Vahid Sadoughi told Irans mobile news agency (Mobna).
“Upgrading MCI network to EDGE technology which currently offers 2.5G (gprs) services will be done surely by the end of this Iranian year (March 2009),” he added.
EDGE technology which stands for Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution transfers data, voice and images with 384 kilobyte per second speed via mobile phones.
This technology which is the fastest system to transfer data in telecommunication services is based on GSM standards.
