The technology first hit the country on August 9, 1994 with some uncertainties, but today, after 14 years, some 40 million people use the service.
Nowadays, with operators such as IranCell, Taliya, Spadan and Kish, which, to a large extent, have managed to break Iran Mobile Company’s (MCI) monopoly, the country’s mobile phone usage rate has reached 60 percent.
MCI, country’s largest mobile operator, has now over 28 million subscribers. In addition it has been able to attract another 10 million users for it prepaid sim card.
 Taliya, as country’s first independent provider of prepaid sim cards, which started operation as contractor to Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) has managed to attract a million subscribers.
IranCell, as the second nation wide mobile operator, started operation in October 2006 whose company claim has over 10 million subscribers.
