“The increase in non Persian sms was unfair and supported the General Inspectorate’s (judiciarys inspection body) report which disapproved the new non Persian sms tariff,” Hussein Hashemi told Mobna news agency.
“The current parliament, like its predecessor, are against the new tariff and will pursue the matter for its reduction.” he added.
He said some discussions have been made with the telecommunication ministry but no tariff cut has been witnessed.
He indicated that sms service was a good source of income for the ministry and, as is customary in other countries, users of such popular services are encouraged by special bonuses.
“The parliament will seriously pursue the cut in non Perisan sms tariff, and with the aid of experts find ways to encourage its use,” Hashemi added.
The Iranian government last February decreed that Persian and non Persian sms tariffs were to be 890 (less than a cent) and 222 rials (two cents) respectively effective from June 21.
The cut in Persian sms tariff was made in an effort to promote the Persian language.
