“Operation in Iran is expected to be stopped in next months if the current 25 percent tariff on the imported mobile sets does not decrease,” Etisalat director, one of the official distributors of Nokia sets “Abouzar Ebrahimi” told Mobna news agency.
He added the current tariff has minimized his companys operation.
“If we want to import Nokia handsets with the current tariffs rate, the only low-cost handsets with average price of 300,000 to two million rials (32 to 215 dollars) would be shipped to Irans mobile phone market,” he said.
Ebrahimi said that his companys share of the Iranian market is only one percent.
“We could have remarkable operation in Irans market only if the import tariff for the sets is reduced from the current 25 percent to five percent”.
Currently “Etisalat” and “Khadamate Talayiye Nia” are the official distributors on Nokia mobile sets in Iran.
